The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was first formed in the early 1970s as "The League for Animal Protection" -- a non-profit organization designed to protect the animals of Nassau County from abuse and neglect, as well as for their common welfare. Under state-mandated statute, we are recognized as a sworn law enforcement agency with the authority to enforce the New York State Agriculture & Markets Laws relating to animals. We are currently the ONLY animal protection agency in Nassau County officially-sanctioned to operate within its borders.
Together, our volunteer Officers, Investigators, and Humane workers come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines, and bring with them a diverse wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience to the organization in the areas of: investigation, law enforcement, military, wildlife, marine, emergency services, and law. They all share one commonality however -- a Love of Animals, a Devotion to Duty, and a Pure Generosity as they give numerous hours of their time and energy without any compensation. It is only about the animals.
GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Our guiding principle is that all animals are intelligent, sensitive beings capable of pain and suffering, and are entitled to the same humane, compassionate treatment, dignity, and respect afforded to human beings.
This is also not limited to Companion animals, but includes those working on Ranches and Farms, Circuses and Zoos, animals used in Research, animals used for Food, and those in the Wild.
It is the Society's obligation to protect these rights, and prevent the needless and senseless suffering of those who cannot speak for themselves.
OUR GOAL
To expand our existing programs, and to acquire modern Communications Equipment, our own Mobile Veterinary Clinic, an Emergency Shelter-Hospital for disaster mitigation, and take on a small, full time staff.
How can we do all this? -- ONLY WITH YOUR HELP AND DONATIONS.
